Preparing Your Print Files

What File Formats do you accept?

We accept native Mac or PC files from Quark, PageMaker, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Publisher, or Word. Be sure to include links and fonts. If there is a problem with your file that we can fix quickly and easily, we will do so for no charge to move your project forward without delay. We also accept JPG, PDF, PS, PSD, TIF and EPS files with embedded links and fonts.

We will of course attempt to support any files not listed that you provide, but please be advised that additional charges may apply.

High resolution scanning is available for film positives, negatives or camera-ready-art.

Why does my print project need to bleed?

Bleed is any artwork that extends beyond the trim marks on a page. We recommend bleeding color, type or image beyond the final page size by I/8" minimum to ensure adequate trim.

Why do I need to supply high-resolution (min. 300 DPI) images?

TigerPress recommends saving your images at no less than 300 DPI to realize the most accurate color and image reproduction that our leading edge direct-to-plate commercial offset printing technology affords.

If you're enlarging images after scanning, be sure to use the scaling factor: (final size / scan size) x final resolution = scan resolution.

What is the differences between CMYK and RGB color?

Simply put, the offset printing process prints color in the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) range. A monitor displays color in the RGB (red, green, blue) range. When RGB is converted to CMYK, as all offset process color printing is currently done, some RGB colors will be out of gamut; they will be lost in the process. Tigerpress' digital workflow handles RGB images fine, but they will be converted to CMYK. To get a better idea of how your images will actually print, convert them to CMYK at the standard SWOP setting.

How should I prepare my files to be printer compatible?

Tigerpress Online recommends using a commercial preflight program to automate your preflight checks. Many desktop publishing progams are now equipped with a native preflight capability. Your document size should be set to the finished size of your bound book, or the flat size of your folded piece. Keep non-bleed items 1/4" from any page edge, and never put two pages together on one page as a spread. Include all links, fonts and a dummy indicating folds, perfs, or other bindery operations. If you have embedded EPS files, be sure to include the fonts for these, or convert the type to outlines.

Ordering Print Products

How do I get a custom print quote?

The Products available for ordering online are appropiate for over 80% of print projects typically ordered. The translates into better pricing, and easier project management. For products specs not currently listed, call Customer Service at (888) 615-2679. Fax or email your print specs to: onlinehelp@tigerpress.com. Or visit our custom-quote online order form.

When will I get a proof for my job?

In most cases, a proof will be available within 24 hours of submission of your order, provided all the necessary components of your project are delivered. A RUSH Priority, if requested, may incur a premium charge.

How long will it take to get my order?

Turnaround times vary with the complexity of a project, though normal turnaround is ten to fifteen business days. Priority turnaround is available, and can be calculated during your project order to ensure your print order is delivered within your deadline.

Do I need special software to upload my files?

The TigerPress Upload Site is an easy to use order form that ensures accurate, on-time delivery of your print project files without requiring special software, though we do recommend using WinZip or Stuffit to maintain file integrity.

What are AAs?

AAs, or Author's Alterations/Corrections/Revisions include all work done by TigerPress that isn't included on the original specifications, and will incur an additional charge.
